We utilize Dimensions Math for our K-1 program. This curriculum is based on Singapore math techniques and offers comprehensive, rigorous, and engaging activities for all students. This allows us to differentiate based on ability and incorporate fun mathematical lessons to increase number sense in our students.
Our language arts curriculum uses the Spalding Method in combination with UFLI. They are both used for handwriting and systematic, and explicit phonics instruction. The students read a wide variety of decodable texts and passages, while being read to from many sources of both fiction and non-fiction literature. This helps to increase their knowledge, comprehension, and helps to foster a life-long love of reading.
We use copy work from scripture to assist in our memorization, while also perfecting our penmanship. Dictation is also a part of our writing practices; this starts out with phonogram’s in kindergarten and proceeds to sentence dictation for those in 1st Grade.
Using the Core Knowledge curriculum we cover topics such as weather patterns, our five senses, plants and animals, pushes and pulls, and our environment. It encourages hands-on exploration for the students, and gives them an introduction into the Scientific Method. All topics are discussed with relationship to God and His creation to inspire wonder and delight in the hearts of the students.
We use the Core Knowledge curriculum for our History program. We discuss the world we live in; including the continents and their differing habitats, American landmarks and past presidents, Native Americans, and the early years of American history.
The arts aren't just electives, they are imperative to a good education. We intertwine visual arts and music into our program on a daily basis.
